There's nothing clever about them, which is the appeal. A cafetière is the most forgiving way to make coffee there is. Coarse grounds and hot water sat together for four minutes, then press. A cheap one does that job as well as an expensive one.
The small one if it's just you, the large one if there's usually two of you.
