Understanding Our Collection: Blends vs. Single Origins

To find your perfect match, it helps to understand what’s in the bag. We offer two distinct paths for your palate:

Signature Coffee Blends: These are our ‘greatest hits’. Our master roasters meticulously combine Arabica beans (and occasionally high-quality Robusta for that extra kick) from different regions to create a consistent, balanced profile. If you’re looking for a reliable, everyday cup like our Supercharger or Daily Grind, our blends are crafted to deliver the same delicious notes year-round.

Single Origin Coffee: For the adventurous drinker, our single origins offer a snapshot of a specific region’s terroir. These beans come from one location—like the high altitudes of Ethiopia or the volcanic soils of Indonesia—allowing you to experience the distinct ‘fingerprint’ of that landscape, whether it's citrusy acidity or deep, earthy spice.

Choosing the Right Roast for Your Brew Method

The way you brew should dictate the coffee beans you choose. While all our beans are versatile, some shine brighter in specific setups:

Espresso & Moka Pot: Look for our darker, more intense roasts (Intensity 9–12). These beans stand up well to pressure and pair beautifully with milk, cutting through with notes of dark chocolate and toasted nuts.

Filter, V60, & Chemex: Medium to light roasts are ideal here. These methods highlight the complex, fruity, and floral notes often found in our Single Origin beans, providing a clean and tea-like clarity.

Cafetière (French Press): A medium-dark roast offers a full-bodied, velvety mouthfeel that thrives in the long immersion time of a press.

Frequently asked questions

How fresh are CafePod coffee beans?

We roast our coffee beans in small batches right here in the UK to ensure peak freshness. To enjoy the fullest flavour and aroma, we recommend using your beans within 4–6 weeks of opening. However, our roasted beans remain delicious for several months if kept in their original valved packaging or an airtight container.

Which coffee beans are best for an espresso machine?

For a rich, syrupy espresso with a thick crema, we recommend our darker roasts with an intensity level of 9 or above. Our Supercharger and Xanadu blends are specifically crafted to withstand the high pressure of espresso brewing, delivering bold notes of dark chocolate and spice that cut through milk perfectly.

How should I store my coffee beans to keep them fresh?

To preserve the delicate oils, store your beans in a cool, dark, and dry place. While our bags come with a one-way valve to let CO2 escape, we recommend transferring them to an airtight coffee storage tin once opened. Avoid the fridge or freezer, as moisture and fluctuating temperatures can degrade the bean quality.

What is the difference between coffee blends and single origin beans?

A coffee blend is a curated recipe of beans from various regions, balanced by our roasters to create a consistent, reliable flavour profile year-round. Single origin beans come from one specific country or farm, offering a unique "terroir" that allows you to experience the distinct characteristics—such as citrusy acidity or floral notes—of that particular region.

Why should I buy whole bean coffee instead of ground coffee?

Whole beans act as a natural protective shell for the coffee’s volatile aromatics. Once coffee is ground, the increased surface area leads to rapid oxidation and flavour loss. By grinding your coffee beans immediately before you brew, you ensure that every cup is as fresh and vibrant as possible.

Can I set up a coffee bean subscription?

Yes, you can! Our coffee bean subscription service allows you to have your favourite roasts delivered to your door on a schedule that suits you. Not only does this ensure you never run out of beans, but subscribers also benefit from a 20% discount on every order and the flexibility to pause or cancel at any time.

Are CafePod coffee beans sustainably sourced?

Absolutely. We are committed to ethical sourcing, working closely with partners who prioritise the well-being of coffee farmers and their communities. We focus on high-quality Arabica beans grown under responsible conditions, ensuring that our coffee supports a sustainable future for the industry and the planet.
