Chances are this is the one. 58mm is the standard portafilter size on most home espresso machines, if you're not sure which size you need, this is the more likely fit. A good tamper presses your coffee grounds into the basket evenly before the water goes through, which makes a real difference to how your espresso tastes.

How to tamp

Grounds in, then level them off with a finger across the rim of the basket.

Tamper flat on top, press straight down. Firm, not violent.

Look at the surface. If it is tilted, knock it out and start again. Level matters more than hard.

Which size do I need

58mm is the standard on most home espresso machines, and it is the one to pick if you are guessing.

51mm baskets are the other common size, usually on smaller machines. Check the underside of your portafilter if you want to be certain before ordering.
