How to make it

Water into the base, up to just below the valve. Fine ground coffee into the basket, level, no pressing.

Screw the top on. Low to medium heat, lid open.

When it starts to gurgle, take it off the heat and pour. Low heat is the bit most people get wrong.

Which coffee works best

A moka pot wants a fine grind, and our ready-ground coffee isn’t fine enough for it. Buy beans and grind them yourself and you’ll taste the difference straight away.

Darker roasts are the ones to reach for. Dr Jones, Sin City, or Wake the Beast.

Frequently asked questions

Coffee coming out slowly, steam escaping round the middle, or a brew that tastes weaker than it used to. The gasket hardens over time and stops sealing.

Once a year is a reasonable rule if you use the pot most days. Sooner if you can see the rubber has gone hard or cracked.
