Why water matters

A cup of coffee is almost all water. Whatever is in the water ends up in the cup.

Chlorine is the obvious one. It flattens the flavours and leaves a swimming pool note behind it.

Hard water is the quieter one. It changes how much of the coffee actually dissolves, and it furs up your machine while it is at it.

Which coffee works best

Whichever you buy, the number on the front of the bag is the strength. 8 is the easy end, 12 is the biggest hit.

If you take it with milk, start around 9. If you drink it black and want it to do some work, go to the top.

Does the water really change the taste?

Yes, more than most people expect. If your tap water tastes of chlorine, so will your coffee.
Will it help my machine?

If you fill the tank from the jug, yes. Less limescale going in means less descaling later on.
How often do I change the filter?

The jug tells you when it is due, and Brita’s guidance is on the pack.
