Why grinding your own matters

Coffee starts going stale the moment it is ground. That is the whole case for a grinder, and it is a bigger upgrade to your cup than almost anything else you can buy.

Burrs crush the bean to an even size. Blades smash it into a mix of dust and boulders, and the water pulls unevenly from that. Even grounds, even extraction, better cup.

Which coffee works best

Whole beans, obviously. Any of ours will grind well.

Match the grind to the method: fine for espresso, medium for a V60 or Clever Dripper, coarse for a cafetière or French press.

Frequently asked questions

Is it fine enough for espresso?

It is built for filter and cafetière. If espresso is your main drink, the Wilfa Svart adjusts finer and is the better match.

How much coffee does 200g of beans make?

Around twelve to sixteen cups depending on method. Grind what you need rather than filling the hopper and leaving it.

Why not just buy ground coffee?

Convenience, mostly. But ground coffee starts losing aroma immediately, so a bag you opened last week is a different drink to beans you grind now.
