How to store coffee

Somewhere cool, dark and dry. A cupboard is fine. The windowsill is not.

Not the fridge and not the freezer. Coffee takes on the smell of everything else in there, and the condensation does it no favours.

Buy what you’ll drink in a few weeks rather than stocking up. Whole bean stays good longer than ground.

Which coffee works best

Whichever you buy, the number on the front of the bag is the strength. 8 is the easy end, 12 is the biggest hit.

If you take it with milk, start around 9. If you drink it black and want it to do some work, go to the top.

Frequently asked questions
Will a 200g bag fit?

Yes. It holds just over 200g, so a standard bag goes in with a little room to spare.
Does it actually keep coffee fresher?

It keeps light and air off it, which is most of the battle. Coffee goes stale from oxygen and sunlight far faster than from sitting in a cupboard.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?

No. Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it straight away, or the tin will mark.
