Why grinding your own matters

Coffee starts going stale the moment it is ground. That is the whole case for a grinder, and it is a bigger upgrade to your cup than almost anything else you can buy.

Burrs crush the bean to an even size. Blades smash it into a mix of dust and boulders, and the water pulls unevenly from that. Even grounds, even extraction, better cup.

Which coffee works best

Whole beans, obviously. Any of ours will grind well.

Match the grind to the method: fine for espresso, medium for a V60 or Clever Dripper, coarse for a cafetière or French press.

Frequently asked questions

Molino or Svart?

The Molino covers filter and cafetière and is the simpler buy. The Svart adjusts finer, so if you pull espresso, or think you might, take the Svart.

Will it do a coarse cafetière grind too?

Yes. It runs the whole range, from fine espresso up to coarse for a French press.

Does grind consistency really matter?

More than most things. Uneven grounds extract unevenly, so you get bitterness and sourness in the same cup. Even grounds are why a decent grinder beats a decent machine.
