How to make it

Coarse ground coffee into the bottom. Hot water on top. Give it a stir.

Lid on, plunger up, and leave it four minutes.

Press the plunger down slowly and pour straight away, or it keeps brewing and turns bitter.

Which coffee works best

Coarse grind, roughly the texture of coarse sea salt. 50 to 60g of coffee per litre of water is the ratio we use.

If it comes out gritty, go coarser. If it tastes thin, go a bit finer. That is almost always the fix.

Frequently asked questions

What grind do I need?

Coarse, roughly like coarse sea salt. Too fine and you get grit in the cup and a bitter finish.

How much coffee should I use?

Around 50 to 60g per litre of water. Four minutes before you plunge.

Is the glass fragile?

It is borosilicate, the same stuff lab glassware is made of, so it handles heat well. It is still glass though. The frame takes most of the knocks.
