Common questions

How fresh are CafePod coffee beans?

We roast our coffee beans in small batches right here in the UK to ensure peak freshness. To enjoy the fullest flavour and aroma, we recommend using your beans within 4–6 weeks of opening. However, our roasted beans remain delicious for several months if kept in their original valved packaging or an airtight container.

Which coffee beans are best for an espresso machine?

For a rich, syrupy espresso with a thick crema, we recommend our darker roasts with an intensity level of 9 or above. Our Supercharger and Xanadu blends are roasted to withstand the high pressure of espresso brewing, delivering bold notes of dark chocolate and spice that cut through milk perfectly.

How should I store my coffee beans to keep them fresh?

To preserve the delicate oils, store your beans in a cool, dark, and dry place. While our bags come with a one-way valve to let CO2 escape, we recommend transferring them to an airtight coffee storage tin once opened. Avoid the fridge or freezer, as moisture and fluctuating temperatures can degrade the bean quality.

What is the difference between coffee blends and single origin beans?

A coffee blend is a recipe: beans from several regions, balanced by our roasters so the bag tastes the same whenever you buy it. Single origin beans come from one country or one farm, so instead of consistency you get the character of that place, whether that is citrusy acidity or floral notes.

Why should I buy whole bean coffee instead of ground coffee?

Whole beans act as a natural protective shell for the coffee’s volatile aromatics. Once coffee is ground, the increased surface area leads to rapid oxidation and flavour loss. By grinding your coffee beans immediately before you brew, you ensure that every cup is as fresh and vibrant as possible.

Can I set up a coffee bean subscription?

Yes, you can! Our coffee bean subscription service allows you to have your favourite roasts delivered to your door on a schedule that suits you. Not only does this ensure you never run out of beans, but subscribers also benefit from a 20% discount on every order and the flexibility to pause or cancel at any time.

Are CafePod coffee beans sustainably sourced?

Absolutely. We are committed to ethical sourcing, working closely with partners who prioritise the well-being of coffee farmers and their communities. We focus on high-quality Arabica beans grown under responsible conditions, ensuring that our coffee supports a sustainable future for the industry and the planet.

What intensity actually means

Intensity is our 1 to 12 scale for roast depth and body, not caffeine. A 12 is darker and fuller, not stronger in caffeine. The pod range runs from 3 to 12.

Whole bean coffee, roasted in small batches here in the UK. Mellow and easy-drinking at one end of the range, dark and intense at the other, so you can pick by how you actually drink it.

Grinding at the last minute is the whole point of buying beans. Fresh grounds hold on to the oils and aromatics that carry the flavour, and those start escaping the moment coffee is ground. Tear open a bag on a Saturday morning and the whole kitchen knows about it.

Darker roasts, around intensity 9 and above, stand up to pressure and suit an espresso machine or a moka pot. Medium and lighter roasts hold on to the fruit and floral notes, which is where a V60 or a filter machine earns its keep. A cafetière will take almost anything, ground coarse.

Every bean on this page tells you how it tastes and how strong it is. If you already know you want something big and dark, start with our strong coffee. If you'd rather taste where the coffee actually came from, start with the single origins.

Understanding Our Collection: Blends vs. Single Origins

There are two ways into this page, and they suit different people.

Signature Coffee Blends: Built to a recipe. Our roasters combine Arabica beans from several regions, with some Robusta where it earns its place, so the bag tastes the same whenever you buy it. If you want a reliable everyday cup, that is Supercharger or Daily Grind.

Single Origin Coffee: Coffee from one place. Ethiopian grown high up tends to citrus and florals; Indonesian off volcanic soil goes earthy and spiced. You can taste the difference between them, and it shifts with the harvest. That is the appeal, and it is also the risk.

Choosing the Right Roast for Your Brew Method

How you brew narrows it down more than anything else. Most of these coffee beans work in most setups, but some are clearly better suited:

Espresso & Moka Pot: Go for the darker roasts, intensity 9 and above. They stand up to pressure and still taste of coffee once milk goes in, with dark chocolate and toasted nuts underneath.

Filter, V60 & Chemex: Medium to light roasts earn their keep here. These methods get out of the way and let the fruit and floral notes through, which is where our single origins show up best.

Cafetière (French Press): A medium-dark roast suits the long soak of a press, and gives you the heavier, rounder cup that method is good at.

    Helpful Cafepod people.

Cafepod people are always helpful and cheery, as well as being efficient. I have been having my coffee delivered by them for about three years, with no problems with delivery, billing, or indeed anything else.
I like the facility for opting out of next month's delivery, if my stock has built up. Also I like the fact that a phone call is always answered without too much delay.

    I wish I could give 6 stars

I have been a happy customer of CafePod for many years. Over that time and with thousands of fantastic coffees, I have rarely had cause to contact customer services, minor issues like a damaged pack or a faulty pod machine. Each time the response has been fast and effective. Gloria deserves special mention here.
During this time, I have occasionally tried other suppliers, but no one comes close for both quality and service together.

A company that cares about its customers .

Excellent coffees delivered on time and well packaged. Having taken out a subscription for my monthly order of whole beans, I have been pleasantly surprised at the care and attention afforded me. Subscribing was easy. Emails received before my order gets sent out give options to delay or change items. Detailed descriptions of the available coffees, make choosing simple. And the little gifts sent with my order (a little chocolate bar followed by some really tasty biscuits) complement the coffee beautifully, and make my day! Wonderful service from these 'pod people'. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.

Not only do they sell fantastic coffee, their customer service is brilliant! I had an issue with my subscription, emailed them and within minutes, a lovely lady (a real human!) called me and sorted everything out. Couldn't ask for more - the absolute best!

    Love this company

Love this company. I only buy decaf and have bought the decaf bundles before. This time before ordering I contacted customer services for advice on the blend to buy for the way I enjoy my coffee. Lovely efficient response that enabled me to place my order knowing I was buying the right blend for me. Highly recommend for fabulous smooth and rich flavours.
