A clean machine makes better coffee. Simple.

Old coffee oils turn rancid and limescale chokes the boiler, and both of those end up in your cup. If your coffee has started tasting flat or oddly bitter and you haven't changed anything else, this is usually the reason.

Caffenu makes the Nespresso specific kit, with a cleaning capsule that runs through the brew head where the oils collect. For everything else it's descaler: Durgol 750ml at £18, a litre of liquid descaler at £19, or an organic one at £8 for 250ml.

How often depends on your water. Hard water area, every couple of months. Soft, twice a year is plenty. If you'd rather stop the limescale getting in at all, that's what a Brita jug is for.
